Design Process

Our goal in the Nightingale project is to develop new and revolutionary technologies.

Our focus is to create technologies for the home environment and we work with technologies which are not commercially available. These technologies include interactive tables which can be utilized by up to eight users simultaneously, pens which transform traditional hand writing into something recognizable by a computer, and devices which detect movements of the body making it possible to interact with a computer by waving your hand. Below are two examples of such technologies.

Prior to addressing the provision of specific applications or technologies, we address the need for involving future users in design projects and introduce methods for eliciting user requirements, wishes, and needs.

One method for engaging users is cultural probes allowing users to create personal impressions, elicitations and recordings in the comfort of their own homes with a minimum interference from researchers.

Activities in our Design Process

  • Individual interviews with each participant. 20-30 participants - one hour pr interview
  • Recording reminiscence with cultural probes – one week
  • Collection of recordings and interview
  • Workshops will be planned based on information from the cultural probes and the interviews
